BT Openreach shutting down PSTN
Openreach are shutting down the entire PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) by 2025. Many telephone exchanges have already entered in to the Stop Sell stage, which means that no new PSTN connections are being sold.
This will change the way we use fixed line telephones forever, and also how many intruder and fire alarms communicate with monitoring stations. If you would like further information on what is happening and how to prepare for the changes please click the image.
Fire Service reducing response to commercial properties
From April 2022 the fire Service will no longer attend an activation from an automatic fire alarm at a commercial premises between 0900hrs and 1700hrs Monday to Friday. If you require the fire service to attend for an activation caused by a fire during this period you must call 999.
This decision has been made by the CFOA (Chief Fire Officers Association) and affects every fire authority area. Unwanted fire signals put huge demand on an already stretched service. Automatic fire alarm activations count for 34% of East Sussex Fire and Rescues total calls and 96% turn out to be false alarms.
If you have a monitored fire alarm on a commercial property, these changes will be automatically implemented by the monitoring station. Response outside of the 'normal working hours' will continue as normal.
